KUALA LUMPUR, 29 April 2024 – The Graduates’ Choice Award (GCA) has once again highlighted the top employers in Malaysia for the year 2024, continuing its streak of excellence for the sixth year. This prestigious award has attracted a record-breaking number of votes from university students nationwide, reaching 464,220 accumulative votes, showcasing the growing interest of the younger generation in joining reputable companies. The authenticity of these results is assured by a rigorous validation process, undertaken by a Board of Audit Committees consisting of 21 esteemed professionals from both public and private universities.

Talentbank’s CEO, Ben Ho, shared that the award reflects the true preferences of the new workforce, with the top 25 companies setting high standards for others to follow in terms of being an ideal place for graduates to start their careers.
The GCA has evolved into a critical resource for countless fresh graduates and job seekers, guiding them towards companies that offer a promising start to their professional lives.
In its fiercely competitive sixth edition, over 2,500 companies across more than 90 categories vied for the top spots. Champions for five years in a row, such as AIA Shared Services, Johnson & Johnson, PETRONAS, Sunway University, Top Glove, and UNIQLO, alongside other leaders like Maybank, EY, Maxis, AIA Bhd, Touch ‘n Go, Nestlé, and Intel, continue to dominate their respective fields.
A 2023 survey conducted by GCA among recent graduates unveiled a keen interest in starting salaries ranging between RM3,000 and RM3,500, highlighting a strong emphasis on work-life balance, job security, and career progression. These insights are crucial for employers aiming to attract and retain the finest talent by aligning with their expectations.
The survey pinpointed three critical employer attributes: Salary & Bonuses, Career Development, and Company Culture. Despite a decrease in remote work opportunities post-pandemic, the demand for Flexible Working Opportunities remains high, underscoring the ongoing importance of Training & Development Opportunities for continuous personal and professional growth.
With career fairs experiencing a 9% surge in popularity in 2023, reaching 41%, and employers rating career readiness at a modest five out of ten, it’s clear that universities need to step up their game in preparing students for the workforce.
Employers are now prioritizing attributes like a positive attitude, effective communication, and teamwork, indicating a paradigm shift in recruitment strategies that extend beyond academic achievements.
