[New Straits Times] Malayan Banking Bhd has won the 2018 Graduates’ Choice Award in the banking category.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd, Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd and Petroliam Nasional Bhd are named the top three employer brands of choice for undergraduates at the 2018 Graduates’ Choice Award ceremony.

Petronas won the Best Graduate Employer Brand 2018 under the engineering category, with Maybank winning the banking category and Nestle topping the fast-moving consumer goods category. AirAsia Group won in the e-commerce category, while Sunway Group bagged the real estate category.

Other winners of the award include Ikea Malaysia for the retail category, AIA Bhd insurance, Shell Business Operations shared services, Microsoft information and communications technology, and PWC Malaysia for the accounting and professional services category.

“The Graduates’ Choice Award celebrates and recognises excellence among organisations that goes above and beyond in bridging the gap between the industry and academia,” said Education Ministry deputy director general for higher education Dr Mohd Nor Azman.

He added this was imperative to achieving the government’s commitment to transforming Malaysia’s education system to keep up with the ever-changing and rising tides of the global industry.

HRINCAMPUS founder and chief executive officer Ben Ho said this year’s Graduates’ Choice Award was a huge success with overwhelming participation from corporate organisations and universities.

“This shows that employers understand the importance of reaching out to these undergraduates and increasingly making new graduates recruitment a strategic part of their overall recruitment process,” he said.

The 2018 Graduates’ Choice Award ceremony, attended by more than 400 people, comprising members of the private and public institutions of higher learning, student leaders, representatives from the various corporate organisations and invited guests, was held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The inaugural award saw university undergraduates from more than 100 campuses across the country vote for their preferred employer brands among a total of 360 companies that were nominated across 10 different categories.
